Jacob's Birth Story
10 days overdue the mid wife
said she could easily break
my waters and that’s how
hospital would induce me
later in week.
13 days overdue hospital too full/busy to take me in for inducing.
14 days overdue arrived at hospital at 7.30am and monitored.
At 10am MW examined me and said waters were gone or VERY thin, like cling film over baby’s head. Told me to walk around for 2-3 hours so try kick start labour.
At 1.30pm MW examined me and said definitely NO waters there so must have gone, probably earlier in week.
At 1.50pm contractions began of own accord.
At 2pm had drip to encourage labour along quicker than doing it myself because baby was at risk of infection seeing as we don’t know when my waters broke.
2pm-3.30pm just used TENS machine for pain relief.
3.30pm began on gas and air.
5.30pm had pethadine (Ian says I was away with Makka Pakka in the night Garden!)
Dozing and sleepy due to pethadine.
7.20pm wanted to push and just 11 minutes later….
7.31pm Jacob was born! Hurray hurrah!
8.30pm placenta still not out, umbilical cord had broken away from placenta and despite desperately pushing it didn’t come out.
9.30pm had lost a lot of blood, and was taken to theatre to have spinal and get placenta out.
Ian was left holding the baby.
Midnight I was taken into recovery room having had blood transfusion (4 pints) and lots of drips, wires attached to me.
All night they kept very close eye on me (Jacob had to be fed from a bottle because i was too 'ill' to feed him myself)
8am they said ‘we’ve mended you’!!
Monitored all day and taken to ward at 5pm.
